GOVERNOR APPOINTS CHRISTINE PRATT TO THE FIFTH DCA

Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed Christine Pratt to the Fifth District Court of Appeal on September 28.

Before joining the court, Judge Pratt worked in the Florida Office of the Attorney General. She was a deputy solicitor general in the Solicitor General’s Office, where she represented the state in criminal and civil matters in state and federal courts. She was also counselor to the attorney general in the Department of Legal Affairs, where she helped initiate lawsuits on behalf of the state.

Prior to her service in the AG’s Office, Judge Pratt clerked for Judge Robert Luck on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. She also worked as counsel at First Liberty Institute, a nonprofit law firm dedicated to defending religious freedom.

Before her time at First Liberty, Judge Pratt served in two federal agencies. She was an attorney-advisor at the U.S. Department of Education in the General Counsel’s Office, where, among her many duties, she led and supported teams writing regulations for the department. She was also a senior advisor at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights, where she supervised a team that investigated and enforced nondiscrimination laws and protected conscience rights in health care.

She also clerked for U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert Numbers on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.

Judge Pratt received her undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Florida. In 2008, she graduated summa cum laude with a degree in economics and a minor in religion. She graduated from law school in 2011, where she was president of the Christian Legal Society and secretary of the Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies.

Pratt was born in Tampa and grew up in Crystal River. She now lives in the Jacksonville area with her husband and three children.
